With sales plummeting, the Volkswagen Phaeton was discontinued in the UK. According to Bernstein analyst Max Warburton, the automaker had loss of approximately 28,000 euros (£ 99,000) each sold Phaeton. The model did not fit the new emission standards in Europe.
The existence of the Phaeton in the range of Volkswagen products never made sense. The model dispute the segment with the luxurious Audi A8 (with whom he shares components), BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz Class S.
